Focus on Avene Skin Recovery Cream

An interesting product from Avene is their Skin Recovery Cream. Also known at Cream for Intolerant Skins, a translation of the French name 'Creme Pour Peaux Intolerantes' or CPI for short. As you can see from the reviews below and as for all cosmetics products, it doesn't work for all people all the time. Still it can be very effective and the reviews list some of the problems helped. One interesting review highlights a point that we make all time. The reviewer was very happy with the item purchased in Europe and then disappointed with the same product purchased in Canada. As unabashed francophiles, we of course maintain that cosmetics made in France for the French market are superior. There is for example anecdotal evidence that the Avene Hand Cream for sale at some US drugstores is not as good a quality as those available in France. The review apparently had a a similar experience with the CPI cream. Still we will always lose this argument against the customer who wants the product NOW and can deal with any modifications made for the local market. For you to judge, as always"

I never thought an Avene product would work for me, since everything I've tried so far hasn't. Then while I was on a trip in Europe, I had this horrible allergic reaction on my face, and my skin was red, rough, itchy, just horrible. The anti-allergic gel they gave me was leaving it even drier, so I went back to the pharmacy for some moisturizer. Avene had a huge display, so I just picked this cream, it just...looked appealing at the moment. Well, it's become my HG moisturizer. It literally saved my face because the irritation subsided soon after I started applying this cream, and I was able to put on foundation without it looking like a pancake. I kept using the tube, now I'm 2 months into it and I still use it nightly, and I've been waking up to the nicest skin I've ever had - even, no pimples, smooth, soft and moisturized but not greasy. I used to be oily now I'm combo, and this little tube works amazingly on me! I will most definitely buy again, when I'm done with this one. Although it may not happen for a long time, because I haven't even used a quarter of it! EDIT JUNE 2013: I will leave the high marks I'd given this previously, because that tube was really THAT good, but if I were to rate the new version (bought in Canada 3-4 months ago) I would give it a 2! This new version (or maybe because it's not the Euro one) is not even close to my first tube. It makes me oily, my skin doesn't look calm, and I suspect it gave me some pimples. It just doesn't feel right, and I bought both the regular and the rich versions. Not to mention the packaging, the top gets nasty with product accumulation which dries and it's just...ugh. Hate it. Why did they have to change an awesome product???

I have sensitive fair skin, prone to flushing in cheeks, dryness and general irritation. With consistent use (and sleep!), this product diminishes them all and makes me glow. I always think "oh, there's probably something better for my skin out there" and try new products, but end up coming back to this. Ie. I just tried the Dermalogica Ultra Calming line, which broke my forehead out with over 50-60 of those tiny skin colored bumps. Three days back on this and they're all gone, 99% smooth. This is the only product I actually run out of and re-buy. HG. Thanks Avene, my skin wouldn't be the same without this.

This is a review for the Rich version (Rich Skin Recovery Cream). I have struggled to find a rich moisturiser for my very dry, VERY blemish-prone, mildly sensitive skin for years. All the rich moisturisers were comodogenic, and it just seemed to me like all the non-comodogenic/anti-acne products were geared towards oily skin types, so I just put up with those products and watched my skin spiral into pimply, flakey disrepair. Then two months ago I decided to spend a little more than I normally would on a moisturiser (I'm but a poor uni student). The price point's a little much here in Australia, where it's AU$40 for a little 40mL tube (it's $31 at Chemist Warehouse though!). But it's worth every penny - my skin is happier and healthier than it has been in years, and no breakouts (except for the occasional pimple because of a topical antibiotic I'm using). It says to use it until your skin is back to its normal balance, but when I don't use it, my skin's still dry and tight. And realistically speaking, no moisturiser can permanently change your skin type. My skin feels supple and balanced, perfectly hydrated but not at all greasy. This is quite possibly my HG moisturiser!

Product Alert from Avene

Avene Product of Interest - Winner of BT Award 2012-2013

The Avene Hydrance line of products have been a staple of this laboratory for many years Recently however a popular trend is for moisturizers to have sun protection, which is what Avene has added to the Hydrance line. Now you can have the moisturing properties of the Hydrance line with SPF20 UV protection. Note that for those Francophile consumers who like to buy the Made in France for the French market, will note that the SPF on the Hydrance line is SPF20, whereas the American version is SPF 25. At FrenchCosmetics.Net, of course you will only find the SPF20 French line.

The popularity and value of the UV/moisturizer combination was confirmed this year when the Hydrance Legere - for Normal Skins received the BT awards, an award given by the influential French Review site Beaute-Test.Com

See the following blurb on how the awards are given:

Each member has voted in each category for their favorite product. More than 33,000 votes were cast in the seventh round of 22 January 2013 to 25 February 2013. We present here the results of votes. In each product category, you can see the first three products BT-elected Awards. Certain categories rather special did not collect enough votes to provide representative results. BT-Awards is fundamentally different from other rankings that you can read in the press and in advertisements. Here, all the products involved in the voting. There are no fees, no entry fee to participate. Classification is therefore done on all products listed and not only among some who agreed to pay for the label. Another difference is that the votes are disinterested and do not earn points or opportunities to participate in a draw. How can we establish a sincere when ranking each entry gives a chance to win the selected product? The vote is obviously representative of the year 2012, with a participation of 22 January 2013 to 25 February 2013. You can see the rankings of the best products in 2013 and even 2014! Do not be fooled.

Discover Hydrobrio from Bioderma

The best way to find out about a product is to see what other users are saying - here's what some people say about Bioderma Hydrabrio line of products:

"Okay ladies, I will be completely honest with you! Have you ever felt clueless about what to do with your dehydrated skin ( dry skin )!!!??? I wish i had known about the Bioderma products when I was younger, because this stuff is insane! I live in Canada & let me tell you, the weather here is quite confusing, especially during our cold blizzarding winters, my skin changes like the weather does! I have extremely dry skin so for me these products worked! Now don't think i only got myself this cream, i had to get the whole dang family!! If anyone's interesting in knowing what i did for my skin, inbox me and i will gladly explain to you which products i've used in the Bioderma line and how i used it".

"I brought this light cream because it was recommended by Lisa Eldridge's French pharmacy favorites video, her recommendations are very comprehensive & professional. On to the product, it is a light weight cream for sensitive & dehydrated skin, although my skin is mostly oily, I often feel dehydrated in winter indoor heat & outdoor dry weather, I love how lightweight Hydrobio Legere is, it penetrates really quick & well, it doesn't break me out or make me feel greasy, it provides lightweight, breathable moisture. I use Hydrobio Legere on top of La roche posay's Effclear Duo, I noticed that my skin is less oily & less tight after changing to this routine. Hydrobio Legere doesn't promise a million things (whitening, anti-aging, firm, etc) but it does the basics exceptionally well! Too bad Bioderma's products are hard to find in the U.S".

"If you have active acne or any acne, do not use this product. This product smells nice and it's a decent moisturizer and can be use for sensitive skin but not for acne skin. When i used this product, my acne became so red and irritated. It was terrible and I had to remove it. I thought it was because i was sensitive to this product but i use it on my neck and the areas of my skin with no acne and it seem to be fine. Just be careful when using this product".

Have you yet discovered Bioderma H2O? Ubiquitous product in French parapharmacies

Look at some reviews have to say about the Bioderma Crealine H2O Micellar Solution DUO-2 x 500ml-Most popular format

I use makeup every weekday for work and I love how this product takes everything right off. I just put some on a small cotton pad and it removes the foundation, eye shadow, concealor and mascara off very gently and thoroughly. I have combination skin and this product doesn't dry out my cheeks at all. I am also a contact lens wearer with sensitive eyes and this is the best product so far that I have found that removes all my eye makeup thoroughly. It is an amazing product because I don't know how it works without having oils or alcohol in it. It never leaves residue on my skin.
A little goes a long way and my bottle lasted me several months despite daily use. Definitely worth the investment. Now my skin is always clean before I go to bed and I have less problems with clogged pores etc. Buy it!

I was glad to find this product. This is a product that is ubiquitous in the French pharmacies, but not easy to find here. I saw this product recommended by Lisa Eldridge just as the other reviewers are. If you search the web, you will see many similar ringing endorsements for this amazing product.

The product has no scent and the texture is remarkably like water! I am no scientist and don't really no what micellization is, but whatever it is, it makes for an amazing cleanser.
I haven't used a soap-based facial cleanser for a long time, and my usual cleansing routine is the Shu Uemura oil cleanser. The Shu Uemura oils are really expensive, over $70 USD. I found the Bioderma Crealine (also known as Sensibio now) to be a great alternative (and cheaper) to my old routine. I find it very effective for removing even heavy eye makeup and dark lip colors. When I soak cotton pads and place them over my eyes and gentle press to release the product on my lids, the dark shadows, gel eyeliners and mascara lift easily into the cotton pads. There is no need to scrub vigorously to get the makeup off. It is not as fast and easy on waterproof mascara, but does take a few more times to get it off. It comes off, just takes longer. In that case, I will use a separate bi-phasic eye makeup remover.

It will also take off foundation, any sunscreen, base product off the rest of your face. You will be amazed at how much gunk comes off. I rinse with water afterwards and my face feels completely clean and refreshed with no dryness or any irritation. I think I've found a lifetime cleasing product!

Lisa Eldridge strongly recommends this product so I recently bought it. It is an incredible cleanser and does a brilliant job at completely cleaning up the skin and preventing blocked pores and breakouts.

I absolutely love Bioderma Crealine H2O! I would most definitely re-order this product. I have very sensitive skin and this did not aggravate my skin at all. I use it at least once a day. It wipes away all your make up, even water proof mascara. I would tell anyone who wants a mild cleanser and make up remover to order this. You won't reget it!

ordered this Bioderma Crealine H20 Micelle Solution after seeing it featured on Lisa Eldridge's YouTube channel on her cleansing routine. I was familiar with micellar water, using one by YSL in the past. I preferred this one over the (MUCH PRICIER) YSL. This is so gentle, it didn't irritate or dry out my skin at all, like the YSL product did. For reference, I have sensitive, combination skin which gets oily on my t-zone and dry in the cheeks near my mouth. This is great for removing ALL your makeup, from foundation to waterproof eyeliner and mascara. It's much more effective than eye makeup remover pads like Neutrogena and Almay, which made me feel like I was doing a lot of tugging and rubbing (NOT good for the delicate skin around your eye area). I simply put some of this solution on a facial cotton or cotton ball, and gently press it against my eye for about 10 seconds, giving it some time to start dissolving the makeup, then I gently wipe and most, if not all, of my makeup is gone! Then I repeat if needed. I am impressed with this product and I hope to never be without it!

Not everyone likes it…"I have been looking for a cleanser that wasn't harsh on my sensitive skin and would remove my makeup without leaving my face greasy. I read the Bioderma reviews and decided to give it a shot. I have to say that I am extremly disappointed. It felt like I was just applying water on my face. Bioderma did not remove my makeup. I would not recommend this product.

I don't know why I waited so long to try this. No rubbing off eye makeup anymore. At almost 40 that's a good thing.

This is much less expensive than the Lancome cleansing water I have used for years and does the same thing. I much prefer cleansing water than soap or a foamy product; it's gentler.

New Products from La Roche Posay

La Roche Posay - Old Line Cosmetics with soothing Thermal Water

Having spend several days at the La Roche Posay resort in France, I can speak of this product with some personal reflection. The resort itself is 'resort' French-style with a handul of modest bungalow-type rooms surrounding a sizeable pool consisting of water from the thermal springs that have a produced the world-wide La Roche Posay cosmetics behemoth that it is today.

La Roche Posay is available in various outlets in the USA. This is a mixed blessing, a kind of Catch-22. Although it available of necessity the products have to go through the FDA approval process. As the FDA is notoriously slow in approving advances in cosmetics this probably means that the La Roche Posay products available in the USA are not the most advanced products available.

For the 'average' consumer this again is not a problem. Go to Walgreens or CVS and you can probably get what you need. For the more discriminating or like us, the Francophone among us who believe that everything French is better, your best best for La Roche Posay is probably a site like FrenchCosmetics.Net that only provides the French formulae and usually at comparable prices, but as with all good things getting these items from France is not an instant-gratification thing and need some patience.

Vichy - Season-End Sunscreen Review

If you visit the French Vichy website, you will immediately notice that their sunscreen range is show as a new product range. What is new on closer examination is that they too have eliminated parabens. So it looks as though consumers will have to forget about whatever texture sunscreens used to have with the old paraben-included formulaes and get used to the new textures from Vichy and all other major sunscreen makers such as Avene and Bioderma
